Stirling Peebles, Advocacy Educator
Stirling is a woman with Down syndrome. She has recently completed a two year “gig” in the Think College program at the University of Vermont from 2011-2013. While attending Think College Stirling did her Vocational Internships at WCAX-Channel 3 News and ORCA Media. After completing her Think College certificate program Stirling was hired to be the Think College Dissemination Assistant at UVM. Stirling has proficient skills in YouTube, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Pinterest. She is developing and sharpening her skills in professional Hollywood editing software like: IMovie and Final Cut Pro.
Stirling also works as Advocacy Educator for Green Mountain Self-Advocates in Vermont. She has worked at GMSA for six years doing a variety of jobs. She got into self-advocacy because she wants to educate people with disabilities to make a difference. The only way we can make a difference is to speak up and fight for what we believe in. It helps to have a large group, so we can have an impact on major topics. The major topics for Stirling are: education, employment and inclusion.
