Trying to make a decision?
What’s the best choice for you?
Self-advocacy refers to people with developmental disabilities taking control of their own lives. This includes being in charge of directing your supports and services.
We all rely on family and friends to get the life we want. Self-advocacy is about having the right to make life decisions without too much influence or control by others.
Green Mountain Self-Advocates provides Options Counseling. This begins with listening deeply as you tell us your needs and wishes. We will help you explore was to tell others what is important to you. We have a few easy tools that will assist you to tell others how to support you well.
Together we can consider natural supports in our community as well as identify service options. Every person is unique. There is no ‘one size fits all’ solution to meeting our needs.
Options Counseling is helpful when faced with big life decisions. We encourage students with disabilities who are getting ready to graduate to consider Options Counseling.
